The Real Deal on the Pacquiao-Marquez Fight

Many felt that Pacquiao’s win over his “nemesis” Juan Manuel Marquez was shady. True, Pacquaio wasn’t stellar that night and Marquez seemed the better fighter, but there are things to consider when deciding who wins a boxing match and who doesn’t.

  1. Manny Pacquiao threw more punches, landed more punches, thus he was more aggressive. Its common sense that a winner fights harder than the loser, in this fight, Manny fought harder. Looks can be deceiving and it seemed Manny was confused most of the time but scoring boxing matches are hard and professionals are required to keep fights fair. Who scored the most? I’ll let the punch stats talk.

  1. Pacquaio is the champ, therefore, he already had an upper hand. To win a boxing match against a champion, you should dominate the whole game.

  1. Expectations were high for Pacquiao. Another good reason why it seemed he did not deserve the win. Many have predicted that it was going to be an easy fight for Manny considering his belts and gradual increase of weight. Marquez, to qualify for the welterweight division had to pack on the pounds quickly. Packing on pounds meant being heavier, and not being accustomed to a certain weight can be a disadvantage inside the ring.

It seems that a 4th match is in order to settle all of this. To be fair, Marquez improved greatly considering he wasn’t knocked down all through out the match. For Pacquiao, this is a good wake up call, maybe Mosley really is the pound for pound king after all.
